『母のこと』　その5

　私の母は晩年、15年間も寝たきりの生活でした。兄嫁が一人で看病してくださり、兄嫁は県知事に表彰され、そのことが新聞にも掲載されました。子供にはとても厳しい母でしたので、兄嫁にも厳しかったと思います。その兄嫁も96歳になり、健在です（平成20年現在）。

　毎朝兄嫁は、母に新聞の記事を読んで聞かせてくれていました。お見舞いに訪れた方よりも母が世情に詳しく、皆さんを驚かせたと聞いています。15年も寝たきりの母でしたが、最期まで認知症にもならず、安らかに亡くなりました。享年80歳でした。兄嫁の看護がすばらしかったからだと思います。心から感謝しています。

"About my mother" The fifth

　My mother had been bedridden for as many as fifteen years in her last years. My elder brother's wife had taken care of my mother by herself. She was commended for her devouted nursing by a prefectural governor, which was carried on some newspapers. I think my mother was strict to my elder brother's wife because she was very strict to her children. Now my elder brother's wife became ninety six and is in good health(as of 2008).

　My elder brother's wife read newspaper articles to my mother every morning. I hear some visitors were surprised my mother knew what was going on in the world better than them. My mother, who had bedridden for fifteen years, passed away peacefully without suffering senile dementia. Her age at death was eighty years. I am deeply grateful to my elder brother's wife for taking good care of my mother.
