『叔父さんのこと』その３

　叔父さんの家は山中にありましたので、雪がたくさん降りました。ある年の冬に行ったときに、「ここは空から雪と一緒にお菓子が降って来るよ。築山のここを掘ってみなさい」と従兄に言われ、掘ると雪の中からビスケットが出てきました。びっくりして雪が落ちてくる空を一生懸命仰ぎ見ていたことを覚えています。今でもビスケットを食べる都度、その光景を思い出します。狸の足跡も雪の上を見つけて、狸が築山に住んでいる話は本当だと思いました。

　ある秋の一日、松茸が採れる頃、叔父さんは長兄の役所の人たちを招待して、山の上ですき焼きをしました。幼い私はもっぱら水運びをしました。とてもいやだったけれど、後ですき焼きが食べられるのがうれしかった。すき焼きはとても美味しかった。すき焼きの中に入っていると松茸は何故か美味しかった。

　The uncle's premises were in the mountains so it snowed much there. One winter when I went to the uncle's premises, one of the cousins said, "Not only snow but also candies fall from the sky here. Dig in this place of the artificial hill." Digging there, biscuits came out of the snow-covered hill, which surprised me much. I remember looking up hard at the sky in the falling snow. Even now I don't tase biscuits without remembering the sight. When I found out the footprints of the raccoon dogs in the snow, I realized the raccoon dogs really lived here.

　One day in autumn, when matsutake mushrooms were gathered, the uncle invited my eldest brother's co-workers to the mushrooms-including sukiyaki party in the mountain. I, being young, had to carry water up the mountain. I hated that, but I was happy to enjoy the sukiyaki later on. It was very delicious. Especially the matsutakes were nice in there. I don't understand why.
